365 Mag || Jay Haze recruits fellow DJs to help the CONGO
July 30th, 2009 | Published in News
(Berlin, DE) – We’ve written recently about Jay Haze trying to help out the war-torn Democratic Republic of the Congo by donating all the money made from his recent Fabric mix, but that’s not even the whole story. He’s also donating half his DJ fees from September to the end of the year to the cause⦠and he’s not the only one. Support is building from all over the scene. Any DJs reading this, can you help?
We’re right behind Jay Haze in his bid to help the victims of the Congo. It’s great to see a DJ operating out of a sense of altruism; a rare thing in our rather apolitical scene these days. The Congo’s civil war has been a bloody, dirty affair. We’re not just talking about large-scale killing; rape is being used as a tool of enforcement and punishment, while the Western media has better things to report – which in itself is a kind of tragedy.
But at least someone is taking an interest – and the man behind the TuningSpork and Contexterrior labels isn’t alone. He’s got backing from DJ Sneak, Loco Dice, Tiefschwarz and Tiga, all of whom have agreed to help, ‘provide health care, medicine, treatment for rape victims and access to clean water for the country’s citizens,’ by donating half their fee from one DJ gig to the Congo. However Jay maintains that more DJs must help the cause, be they big names or not. So if you’re interested, email djs4drc@jayhaze.com for details on how you can get involved.
